2007-2008 NSBE Website |
SDSU's NSBE website, found at http://nsbe.sdsu.edu, was crowned the Best Chapter Website in Region VI for the 2007-2008 academic year, beating out countless websites within the 13 states in the region.
Using only frames and tables, Jeridel "Jd" Banks, an intermediate level web designer, brought SDSU NSBE its first victory in the NSBE Region VI Telecommunications competition. The top three websites were first selected based on "excellence in terms of both design and content." After all three websites were also submitted to the National NSBE Telecommunication competition, in which all three were eligible to win, even if they did not win the Regional competition.
"I was shocked," said the SDSU NSBE's Telecommunications chair. "I found out by a formal announcement at a general body meeting, and I tried to hide. Why would a site with frames win?"
According to Omari Christian, the 2007-2008 Telecommunications Chair for Region VI, the SSU NSBE was update to date and without broken links--there were no 404 pages when visitors clicked on links.
In winning the competition, SDSU NSBE received 2 waived registrations to the 2008 Fall Regional Conference (FRC) in Seattle, Washington. In addition, Banks was offered a position on the Region VII executive board as the Telecommunications Chair for 2008-2009.
"I had to decline," she admitted. "I'm a Pre-Physical Therapy major, but it doesn't count as an applied science or mathematics in the by-laws, even though we take the same classes as Biology majors. Unless they change the National By-laws, I'll just be the Telecommunications chair for SDSU NSBE."
